Give Yourself Some Love with a Little Self-Care

We are almost nearing the end of November (I know, can you believe it!?) and it has me thinking about the busyness that comes with December … prepping for the holidays, spending more time in the kitchen than usual, many errands to run and Christmas parties to attend … our to do list starts to add up. It's a time of the year that creates stress for many people and we often forget to take care of ourselves along the way. So I thought, "No better time than now to offer a few small things you can reach for as needed over the coming month." With that in mind, below is an easy meditation and a DIY recipe for an oil massage. Enjoy adding one or both of these ideas into your schedule.

Best,

Laura 🙏🏻

Soothing Ocean Meditation

  • Sit in a comfortable position. Allow your spine to be tall.

  • If you are sitting in a chair be sure the feet are firmly planted onto the ground.

  • Close your eyes and cover your ears with your hands.

  • Inhale and exhale as slowly as possible.

  • Focus your attention on the sound that your breathing makes.

  • Visualize peaceful ocean waves rolling slowly back and forth towards the shore as you breathe.

  • Repeat for 6-8 cycles of breath (or more)

Lavender Essential Oil Massage

DIY Recipe

Supplies needed:

  • 1 ounce of a carrier oil such as grapeseed oil

  • 10-12 drops lavender essential oil

  • Dark glass container

Instructions:

  • Mix the carrier oil & essential oil inside a dark glass or PET plastic bottle

  • Massage onto hands & feet for comforting and penetrating warmth.

Why Grapeseed as the carrier oil?

  • This is a light, fast-absorbing oil that is odorless and is not known to stain and it is non-toxic and safe for use on babies and young children. It can be purchased in most specialty sections of quality grocery stores.

Hand Massage Instructions:

  • Sit in a comfortable position. Allow your spine to be tall.

  • Drop 2-4 drops of massage oil into palm of hand

  • Gently & slowly run hands together, noticing the feeling of the smooth oil

  • Begin to massage each finger, one at a time. Do both hands

  • Slow this down...there is NO rush.

  • Feel the care and love you are bringing to your own body.

  • Repeat on feet if desired.

Tip: This hand massage is wonderful for anyone who wants to unwind and it's even great for children before naptime or bedtime to calm, sooth and relax the nervous system and prepare the body for a restful sleep.

Caution: Always be aware of allergies and sensitivities when using essential oils and scents with children. For children under 3 years use grapeseed oil only without adding the lavender essential oil.
